To continue my long and narrow pieces, I bought some unstretched canvas. This is the length of the canvas I got which excited me tremendously!!

I worked on it on a table to create different sections - a ladder of sorts of various textures, each area pushing it, playing, trying to see what can happen.

I see this piece fitting onto a space on a wall where a larger painting would be difficult to accommodate.

ABOUT THE PROCESS -

A blank canvas represents a world of opportunity. It is exactly that - a blank canvas.

I try to let what is speaking to me come to the fore. How am I feeling? Is a colour on my mind? A colour I recently got? One that has been on my mind because of the texture of its particular brand? Or is it a shape or part of the canvas that is speaking to me? Is it something I saw online or on TV or in the garden? Maybe I can’t even name it but it is there!

I know that it is THAT inkling which I could do. It is listening to this which I find deeply self-affirming. It involves a TRUST and a KNOWING which I find priceless.

Metallic white and blue paint. Covering over and then taking away were just some of the actions that felt deep and true.

What is that inkling, that idea that is speaking to you - perhaps one you’ve been putting off? Could you give birth to it?

My eldest sister, who is also an artist, gave me the 'ends' of canvas that were left over from work she'd done. She knows how much I believe that we through away too much 'stuff' which could be re-used and which is filling up the world's landfills so she passed on several pieces of her linen to me.

I painted one length of linen over the course of a few days and cut it into 4 pieces as it seemed to lend itself to this. This is one of those pieces. The other 3 pieces are no longer available.

Abstract expressionist piece that feels inspired by the plan drawings that I did when I studied Landscape Architecture - which I loved and which stayed with me (in this, paving stone paths lead to different areas and textures) and framing of the whole piece in a shape that isn't a clean rectangle.

As an artist I would like Art to be accessible to everyone, not just people with a lot of money. As such, if you, as an aficionado, see a piece you love but may not be able to afford the listed price please make me an offer.

I would be very happy to entertain reasonable offers and elated to have you own a piece of my work.

ABOUT THIS PIECE -

I had been painting on linen that was loose (no backing or within a frame which would hold it) - so it was like painting on a loose piece of cloth (which it is of course ).

However, I wanted to paint on a firm surface which could take a fair amount of pressure and not move. I sold some work recently so bought a canvas board which is my preferred surface to work on. A stretched canvas doesn't give me the firmness I like.

I enjoyed this. Was able to experiment, scraping paint off, dragging my tools while interjecting by deliciously applying paint with a lot of water and using my fingers to create a smooth surface.

I also challenged myself to use the court yellow and a different palette of colours from my usual - a new bronze colour I was happy to get. The resulting colours please me.

Abstract expressionist painting - the freedom of this style with the formality of red lines. I like the contrast - macaws in the forest come to mind for me.

I painted on a piece which I did a few years ago, which I thought was finished but which didn't sit happily with me. I had taught earlier that day in a class about making textures and patterns with a paint brush. The ideas stayed with me and informed the work I did here. Funny that this happened - I didn't expect teaching to inform my work!
