This is done in the way that Rorschack’s ink-blot drawings, that were used in psychological testing, were created.

I like working in an expressionistic style when painting - letting the work emerge from inside of me without too much rational thinking. I applied the paint in a similar manner on this piece and then folded the T-shirt. The image that emerges is a gift.

This piece is from the ‘There is Something in the Water’ collection that was inspired by my love of the planet’s waters and my concerns about them. This one in particular is inspired by pearls and coral reefs, the greens and blues of the water in the Gulf of Paria near where I live and the blood of fish.

Inspired by waves, rough seas, chaos, strong seas, dying / struggling fish. This T-shirt was folded and taped to create a sculpture - then painted - then opened back out.

I wrapped this T-shirt around a canvas and painted on it tricking my mind that I was paintings a piece that would go on a wall. I love this blurring of the line between art for a wall and art that could be worn. I want people to wear paintings.

Work is done on this piece just starting to go on to the back. It is my hope that it continues to be worked on - creating new looks - by myself or other people - it can eventually be the work of many hands.

Re-using what we have and making it last for as long as possible is so important as we try to take less from the earth.

I did this piece in response to a call for artwork for PRIDE Memorial 2020 that was hosted by 'Friends for Life' and 'Alliance for Justice and Diversity' in Trinidad.

I have been paralyzed with fear at various times of having HIV. A huge part of this was the stigma associated with being positive and I can only imagine what that loneliness and despair could feel like. I wanted in this piece to highlight a side of people that might be forgotten. 'So and so' isn't 'that guy who died of AIDS.' He had a whole life like everybody else. The broken words are about silence and from my own experience of having a love that could not be public. The gold is important for a sense that their lives should be celebrated and the simplicity of the design is for a sense of solemn reflection.

The concept is a simple one. Artists and makers post images of their work to sell for NO MORE than TT$1400 (US$200, £200, €200, ¥20000) each (not including shipping.) Anyone can then buy the work. Every time the artist or maker reaches TT$7000 (US$1000) of sales they pledge to buy another artist’s work for TT$1400 (US$200). This is open to artists all over the world and is to encourage a more democratic, equal and open economy for all artists and makers.

I like to sometimes use gold paint when working on clothes (as well as silver and 3-dimensional pearl paint) as they shimmer and shine and give some element of jewellery without actually needing to have real gold, silver or pearls (a lot of the available gold and silver jewellery are manufactured using processes that are toxic to the environment).

Why the need for shimmer and shine? For me, it’s the moment when it catches the light and just for that very quick instant, it’s a connection with magic - and it’s magic and awe that, for me, make life beautiful! - think as well of the sun shimmering off the water in the sea. Can we really want more??

This piece can be added to over time to create new looks - thereby taxing the earth less by buying entirely new clothes (and she needs that!!!!). More art can be added. It is amazing how much this can evolve over time. Imagine……………………….

This is an organic bamboo and organic cotton tank top (no chemicals were used in the growth of the crops). It was good to the earth :). It was also made by unionised workers in the US (people were honoured and respected in its production).

‘Federation Park, 2031.’ Hand-painted One-off women’s-cut XL. Organic cotton, sweatshop-free.

This is one of a few pieces I did where I attempt to raise awareness of the dangers we face as the earth’s climate changes. The welcome, surprising and beautiful images we’re seeing as the world has gotten quiet due to covid - such as the clear skies in the Himalayas or kangaroos on the streets in Australia are great but carbon emissions must be cut drastically over the long-term for us to avert really messed-up climactic events like desert and snow in Trinidad with a tsunami - all at the same time!

Scientists set 2030 as the year by which we must reduce our carbon emissions. In this piece, it's 2031 - we haven't met the deadlines and this is what could happen.

This piece of wearable art can be a great conversation starter for everyone wanting a safer, more secure, habitable future!

‘Carite after the La Brea Oil Spill IN 2013.’ Hand-painted unisex medium V-neck. Organic cotton, sweatshop-free (SOLD)

This piece is inspired by a large oil spill that took place off the coast of La Brea in Trinidad in 2013. The black central part is the hand-printed linocut print of a carite fish that has been affected by the oil spill. A carite is normally a long, narrow fish but after ingesting oil and the dispersants that were used in the clean-up, its whole biology has changed - it is now square or rhomboidal in shape, its tail is falling off and it now eats everything - trees, birds, people and houses.

How we mess with the environment is something, I believe strongly, that we need to pay much more attention to. We are trampling on too much - we are losing too much.
