Adé creates handwoven fabric to make bags and other products. And I do tie-dye and hand-paint fabric, to make African-style Garments.

Adélabu’s mission is to produce innovative, creative, and distinctive designs using environmentally- sensitive processes and materials. We use upcycled fabrics and other fibers, upcycled paper, and Barbadian clay in our creative production processes. We aim to enhance the environment and society.

Adélabu aka Adé, is a self-taught Artist, Designer, and Weaver. I adopted the name Adélabu from the Yoruba tribe, in West Africa, as I am a lover of African things. “Live to love”, and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13) are two of the philosophies I live by. I also go to the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

 My business name is “Adélabu’s”. Inspiration for my creations comes from life, the environment, and my spirituality. My main objective is to concentrate on developing my skills in art and design, to the highest level. I have pursued courses at Barbados Community College and Barbados Industrial Development Corporation, Loom Weaving Techniques ‘A’ (Basics) 1987, as well as a short course in Tapestry, Weaving, and Dyeing Techniques in the United Kingdom – 2014. C.X.C Visual Arts Grade 2 2019

Despite I am Dyslexic, I have authored a book, “My Journey to Freedom” I have don and completed many Certificate courses and workshops, many awards in Art and Craft, many Solo Exhibitions and Solo Fashion Shows, and participated in many group exhibitions. Taught weaving at Lester Vaughan Secondary School for the teachers 2009 and Taught Art and Craft, and pottery at many other different places.

Each piece of Adé’s work is created with passion and dedication. The brand Adé ranks high in Art and Design circles in Barbados for its quality, originality, design, and outstanding workmanship.  I make my statements in the Arts through textiles, lino, mono printing, handmade paper, and sculpture.

My works of art and craft consists mostly of hand-woven material to make many products mostly from natural fibres. Each piece of work is created with passion and dedication. A few of the many products I produce are, clutch bags, shoulder bags, gents’ bags, table runners, rugs, wall hangings, neck scarfs, bed throws, change purses, pencil cases, glasses cases, and African style garments.

As a person with Dyslexia, I am passionate about helping persons like myself. To this end, I founded and the President/C.E.O. of the “Bajan Stars Dyslexia Support Organization” (Charity #659) registered on 2nd March 2006.
