Young palm trees began to spring up around a mature one in the garden. To be able to witness a plant that I played around and gave me so much joy as a child when it was much smaller sending out young ones which in 40 years time would also be a grand presence is very interesting to me! It reminds me of the continuity of life and this I find soothing/reassuring.
The photographs of graphic buildings in Istanbul by photographer Shane Taremi were in my heart and mind during the period of working on this collection and served as inspiration also.
This is the first look of this top! It’s best for the planet and our pocket to reuse what we have. Over time, this 1 piece can be worked on to create new looks!! Please consider this in all your clothing.
On ‘CHOICES’:
Conventional cotton uses a lot of fertilizer and pesticide. We need to realign our relationship with nature. These chemicals land up in the air, soil and water where they wreak havoc on animal and plant life and eventually human life as they enter the food chain. Put in another way… could conventional cotton clothes be considered cancer-causing agents?
This piece is available as part of the #artistsupportpledge on Instagram which is a generous culture and dynamic economy in support of artists and makers around the world. (Please see photos for details).
