A ‘gratitude meditation’ I listened to recently asked me to consider my HANDS and a beautiful rush of gratitude came over me as I thought of the great joy they give me when I paint.

I remembered losing use of my left hand when I broke numerous bones in it and a sense of gratitude came over me again for having its full use once again.

I wanted to honour my left hand and spend some time too remembering what it was like doing physiotherapy exercises to regain its full range of motion and strength. They were hard things to remember but ultimately empowering. With my left hand (I’m normally right-handed), I mimicked the exercises I did in physiotherapy and the yellow in this painting are traces left by these movements. The rest was done with my right hand.
